A 30-year-old man from Breda was arrested in Amsterdam on Tuesday after the police discovered 473 kilograms of cocaine in his delivery van. The drugs were found in a hidden compartment in the van. According to the police, the street value of the drugs is around 19 million euros.
The number of vehicles on Dutch roads increased slightly over the past year. At the start of this year there were 12.5 million registered vehicles in the Netherlands, 2 percent more than in early 2017, Statistics Netherlands reported.
Almost all types of vehicles saw an increase, delivery vans in particular. At the start of 2018 there were more than 883 thousand delivery vans in the country, an increase of 5 percent compared to a year earlier.
Numerous weapons as well as police uniforms stolen during a robbery on a delivery van in February, were found during raids in Utrecht last month, the police said in a statement on Friday. A total of five suspects were arrested.
On March 20th the police arrested three suspects in connection with the delivery van robbery on February 27th and raided three homes and two garages in Utrecht. Two other suspects were arrested after the raids.
The police found a total of 19 undocumented migrants on and around a parking lot on the A67 just south of Eindhoven during the early hours of Tuesday morning, ANP reports.
Patrolling officers noticed a delivery van parked on the parking lot. They checked it out and found 13 people in the cargo area. In the woods next to the parking lot, another six people were found, including a child.
The police don't yet know where these undocumented migrants are from. They were taken to a police station in Eindhoven.
The immigration police are investigating.
On July 11th the police pulled over a delivery van on the A30 near the Gelderland town of Lunteren and found 132 kilograms of heroin and several firearms inside. The driver and passenger were arrested, the police announced on Friday.
The police pulled the van over for a traffic check and noticed some illegal items. Upon further investigation, the police found hidden compartments containing the drugs as well as two gun trains, eight small arms, a shotgun, a silencer and a large amount of ammunition.
An armed robbery in a home on Limburgsingel in Arnhem left one person dead on Thursday night. According to the Gelderlander, the victim of the armed robbery ran the robber over with a van, killing him.
