An online petition against Asian people being discriminated against in the Netherlands due to the outbreak of the coronavirus has been signed over 25 thousand times, including over 20 thousand signatures from people in the Netherlands. The petition, titled 'We are not viruses!' was placed online on Saturday.

Staff shortages and the elimination of birthing rooms in hospitals are leading to dangerous situations for pregnant mothers and their babies, the Netherlands' association for obstetricians KNOV warned in De Telegraaf. 

"Our obstetricians have to move further and further with their pregnant clients and ask for a place at other hospitals," KNOV director Charlotte de Schepper said to De Telegraaf. "For example, we have reports that an obstetrician had to go from Houten to Gorinchem or from Leeuwarden to Amsterdam."

Dutch schools should cancel their exchange programs with China in the coming months due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus, Globi, an organization that helps with organizing exchange projects, advised on Wednesday. So far three people in the Netherlands have been tested for infection with coronavirus 2019-CoV, but all tests have come back negative, public health institute RIVM confirmed to NU.nl.

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs updated its travel advice for China on Monday night, warning that travelers should avoid the Hubei province except in cases of emergencies. The ministry cautioned that China has implemented many new and far-reaching measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. "This leads to significant consequences throughout China and limits possibilities for transport, tourism and daily life," the Ministry said.

Gay men must be able to donate blood if they have safe sex, according to the VVD, D66 and GroenLinks. The parties want blood bank Sanquin to lift the restrictions on gay men donating blood if they live a monogamous life. They asked Minister Bruno Bruins for Medical Care to investigate whether this is possible, the Telegraaf reports.

Currently blood bank Sanquin does not take blood from men who have had sex with a man in the past four months. This is because men who have sex with multiple male partners are at higher risk of being infected with HIV or hepatitis, for example.

The Dutch government decided to build up extra stocks of medicines in order to prevent shortages, Minister Bruno Bruins for Medical Care announced. The extra stocks will be built up at firms and wholesalers from next year. This will cost around 25 million euros, but is expected to cover 85 percent of the temporary drug shortages. The Minister also announced that the Ministry managed to save 272 million euros for patients last year by negotiating the price of "new and very expensive medicines."

From then on Dutch adults who have not explicitly said that they do not want their organs donated, will automatically be considered an organ donor, NOS reports.

Victims of sexual violence in the Netherlands no longer have to pay healthcare deductibles when they incur medical costs. With this one year long experiment, the Dutch government wants to find out whether free care will lower the threshold for seeking help, NOS reports.

Victims can go to a Center for Sexual Violence to get help. These are usually connected to hospitals' emergency room. The Centers perform trace evidence investigation, but they also offer psychological help and tests for venereal diseases.

Many Dutch municipalities are dissatisfied with the current preliminary design of the government's experiment with regulated cannabis cultivation. Where municipalities queued to participate in the experiment when it was announced, the government will now have difficulty in finding 10 municipalities to participate, the association of Dutch municipalities VNG said to Trouw.
