The victims of a mass shooting in Utrecht on Monday were commemorated with a silent march in the city on Friday. The 16 thousand attendees included Prime Minister Mark Rutte, Minister Ferdinand Grapperhaus of Justice and Security, Mayor of Amsterdam Femke Halsema, Den Haag mayor Pauline Krikken, and Rotterdam's Deputy Mayor Bert Wijbenga.
Rotterdam will give more of its Stadbeheer enforcement officers extra investigative powers to tackle nuisance on the streets. These special enforcement officers will be allowed to issue fines for 10 criminal offenses, mainly focused on nuisance, NOS reports.
Currently around 40 Rotterdam enforcers already have these powers. The municipality will now train another 80 enforcers to also write tickets. The expectation is that they can be used from May 1st.
The municipality of Rotterdam placed the 43 sisha lounges in the city under stricter supervision, following complaints from residents and an explosion at a sisha lounge in Rotterdam West in December. Earlier this week the police announced that the explosion at Villa Blanca was an attack, NOS reports.
A day after the first conviction for sexual harassment on the street, Rotterdam is expanding this regulation. The ban now also applies to harassing LGBTQ people, not only women, NOS reports.
