Rotterdam expands sex harassment on street ban to also protect LGBTQ people
A day after the first conviction for sexual harassment on the street, Rotterdam is expanding this regulation. The ban now also applies to harassing LGBTQ people, not only women, NOS reports.
The expansion of this regulation is part of alderman Bert Wijbenga's integration and cooperation action program called "Relax. This is Rotterdam". With the program, the Rotterdam office of mayor and aldermen want to improve acceptance of diversity and urge people to interact with each other in a more relaxed manner. The motto is "living together in a city where no one in is in the majority".
In addition to banning sexual harassment on the street, the program also includes Rotterdam schools providing information about sexual preferences, and helping new Rotterdam residents integrate more quickly. Rotterdam will also tackle discrimination on the housing market and in clubs by deploying mystery guests.
