Fmr. city councilor suspected of sex abuse of 13 kids also has criminal record in U.K.
Jan B., the 66-year-old former Almere city councilor suspected of sexually abusing at least 13 kids while working as a daycare temp, also has a criminal record in the United Kingdom. The Amsterdam court has requested an extract of this record to add to the case file, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) told the NPO Radio 1 program Het Misdaadbureau by PowNed.
The OM did not say exactly what the man’s criminal record entails, only confirming that it exists and that the Amsterdam court requested more information.
Jan B., who formerly represented 50Plus and SP on the Almere city council, worked as a temporary worker at various daycare centers. The police arrested him in November 2025 on suspicion of trying to rape a 2-year-old girl at the daycare where he worked at the time, a branch of the Patrou daycare center in Amsterdam.
Further investigation linked the 66-year-old man to sex crimes against at least 13 children, including the sexual assault of a 13-year-old boy and the production of child sexual abuse footage of a baby and a 3-year-old boy. The police also found a child sex doll at B.’s home. The investigation is ongoing, and more victims may be identified.
A second introductory hearing in the case against B. happened on Tuesday. The psychologist who examined him recommended that he be admitted to the Pieter Baan Center for further psychological and psychiatric examination.
Earlier this year, Het Misdaadbureau revealed that B. got his job at the Amsterdam daycare after he was suspended and dismissed from his previous job at another daycare center over concerns about his behavior. It raised questions about how effective the childcare sector’s screening processes are.
