American medical group Johnson & Johnson is working with over 100 people in Leiden on a vaccine against coronavirus Covid-19, but this vaccine will likely not be tested in the Netherlands. The rules for clinical tests on humans are stricter in the Netherlands than in other countries, and the group wants to avoid delays, Financieele Dagblad reports.

Police in Amsterdam say a 21-year-old Scottish man who was visiting the city for a weekend visit disappeared after leaving his hotel Saturday morning. Matthew McCombe was last seen leaving the Novotel in Amsterdam Zuid at about 6:15 a.m. walking towards the RAI convention center, police told NL Times based on images captured by security cameras.

He was in town to celebrate his birthday with some friends. All of his belongings, including his phone and wallet, were left in his hotel room, police said. He has not been heard from since leaving.

The police arrested a 22-year-old man from Arnhem on Wednesday on suspicion of offering about 12 billion stolen usernames names and passwords for sale on website WeLeakInfo. The arrest was made as part of a joint investigation by the Dutch police, the United Kingdom's National Crime Agency, the United States' FBI, and Germany's Bundeskriminalamt.

Among them were a six-week-old baby, and two toddlers, according to several Dutch media reports, though one French authority said a total of 19 migrants were rescued, including 16 men, one woman, and two children.

After five years on the run, police in The Hague captured one of the United Kingdom's most wanted criminals on Christmas Day. Daniel Burdett, a 28-year-old man from Liverpool, was picked up on "ten charges of conspiracy to import firearms and conspiracy to supply class A and B drugs," the UK National Crime Agency (NCA) said on Thursday.

The Liverpudlian was taken into custody by Dutch officers as he sat down to Christmas dinner at a Hague restaurant. "Delighted with this little Christmas present," said NCA Director General Lynne Owens on social media.

Sixteen undocumented migrants were found hiding in the back of a truck at the port of IJmuiden on Thursday. Among them were four children, one woman and eleven men, of various nationalities, the Koninklijke Marechaussee, a military policing force tasked with border security, said on Facebook. 

An employee at the port, who asked to remain anonymous, told NH Nieuws that the children were "no older than around 8". He was there when the truck was opened. "There stood a small boy with a teddy bear in his hands", the port worker said.

The police and Koninklijke Marechaussee found 18 stowaways hidden in a "tiny, extremely hot space" between a load of tires in a small truck at Hoek van Holland on Sunday. Among the stowaways were five children between the ages of 5 and 14 and a pregnant woman. "Despite the miserable conditions in which they found themselves, all stowaways were in good health", the police said in a statement.

He was transferred to the Koninklijke Marechaussee, a policing force that works as part of the Dutch military and is responsible for border security, NH Nieuws reports.

As the Dutch economy continues to improve, more permanent jobs will be offered in the Netherlands and contract wages at companies will continue to rise, according to Dutch central bank De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), NU.nl reports.

The number of permanent jobs is already increasing, said Job Swank, director of financial stability at DNB. This year, contract wages are expected to rise by 2.1 percent, after they already rose 1.5 percent in 2018. For 2019 and 2020 the bank expects wage increases of 2.6 and 3 percent respectively.

Almost all parties in the Tweede Kamer want the government to amend Article 10 of a special emergency law for the Brexit. The 'Brexit Collective Law' will be implemented if the United Kingdom breaks with the European Union with no agreements in place. But the parliamentarians feel the law gives too much power to one minister and uncontrollable powers to the government, NOS reports.

May said on Monday that she wants extra promises from her European Union colleagues in the Brexit deal. She will visit many of them, starting with Rutte in the Catshuis on Tuesday, NOS reports.

The Netherlands and United Kingdom have a very good relationship, despite the Brexit plans.

If the United Kingdom leaves the European Union with no agreement in place, it will cost the Netherlands around 2.3 billion euros up to 2023, the Court of Audit said in a new report published on Monday. This involves extra money for Customs and the Dutch food and consumer product safety authority NVWA, as well as higher contributions to the EU, ANP reports.
