Two killed in head-on crash on Limburg provincial road
A Friday morning collision involving two work vehicles left two people dead in southern Limburg. The crash happened at about 6:30 a.m. on a stretch of the N266 known as the Wetering.
The head-on crash between the two vans happened on the provincial road between Nederweert and Someren. Authorities have not yet said if the two people killed in the crash were riding in separate vehicles.
One of the two vans involved in the accident was branded with the logo of manual labor staffing firm based in Stramproy, about 15 kilometers south of the crash site. The other was from a cabling and network connectivity company in Eersel, about 35 kilometers west of Nederweert.
Overtaking is permitted on the stretch of the narrow road, which has a speed limit of 80 km/h, one northbound lane, and one southbound lane. “The road is temporarily closed,” police said in an update on social media.
Records show that police, firefighters and ambulances were sent to the scene. A trauma team was also sent by helicopter within a few minutes of the first report of the crash.
Police have not yet released information about which driver was at fault, or if either driver suffered from a medical condition leading to the incident. The police said more information would be released later in the day.
It also was not clear when the road was going to be reopened. The initial investigation into the crash was expected to continue at least through Friday morning.
