Fire in Rotterdam residential area contained after chimney blaze
A chimney fire in a home on Bergselaan in Rotterdam’s Noord district spread to neighboring houses early Sunday morning, prompting an emergency response that led to four homes being evacuated. Fire crews worked for more than two hours to contain the flames, which were reported around 2:30 a.m. Earlier in the night, an unrelated shooting incident took place at a business on Kleijnstraat.
According to the Veiligheidsregio Rotterdam-Rijnmond, all seven residents of the affected homes managed to escape unharmed. They were temporarily housed in a nearby community center while emergency services assessed the situation.
By 4:40 a.m., firefighters reported that further spread of the fire had been prevented. Crews remained on-site to check for carbon monoxide levels, and authorities expected all residents to return home later in the morning.
The fire department deployed multiple vehicles to battle the blaze, which was fully extinguished by 5:00 a.m. The cause of the fire is believed to be related to the chimney, though an official investigation is ongoing.
Earlier in the night, an unrelated shooting incident took place at a business on Kleijnstraat in the Delfshaven district. According to police, the building was hit by gunfire, but no injuries were reported. A suspect fled the scene before officers arrived.
