Fire at Tilburg transformer station cuts power, forces evacuations

A fire broke out Saturday afternoon at a transformer station on Landsteinerstraat in Tilburg, causing a power outage in the surrounding neighborhood. The fire is now under control, but the incident forced the evacuation of multiple nearby homes and apartments, Brabants Dagblad reported. No injuries have been reported so far.

The fire started around 12:30 p.m. and produced heavy smoke, but firefighters quickly brought it under control. Despite this, power disruptions affected a large part of the Hoogvenne district throughout much of the afternoon.

Utility company Enexis reported that homes on Landsteinerstraat, Dunantstraat, Salkplantsoen, and Tivolistraat lost electricity due to the fire. Approximately 100 addresses were without power, expected to last until about 4:15 p.m.

Emergency services responded promptly with fire trucks, police, and municipal enforcement officers present at the scene. Residents evacuated their homes and gathered on the streets to observe the situation.
