Teen delivery driver dies after tram strikes his scooter in Rotterdam

An 18-year-old scooter rider died Friday evening after a collision with a tram on Laan op Zuid, according to Rotterdam police. The accident caused major disruptions to tram service and prompted victim support for witnesses and passengers, De Telegraaf reports.

Police confirmed that the victim was an 18-year-old male from Rotterdam. A police spokesperson stated that the young man was working as a food delivery driver when the collision occurred. Authorities closed the road in both directions following the incident.

The crash disrupted tram operations across the city. Transit company RET reported that passengers on tram lines 2, 3 and 5 should expect extended travel times and required transfers due to the closure.

Victim support services have been arranged for tram passengers and bystanders who witnessed the accident, police said.
