Rail worker killed as two maintenance machines collide near Malden

A 47-year-old man from Dordrecht was killed Friday afternoon in an accident involving two maintenance vehicles on the railway between Malden and Heyendaal, police in Oost-Nederland said.

The crash occurred during scheduled maintenance work on the track, where two machines collided. According to Omroep Gelderland, the victim was operating one of the maintenance machines at the time of the incident. Police emphasized that the vehicles were not passenger trains.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the accident. Police investigators remained at the site Friday to examine what went wrong.

Passenger trains were already suspended on the route due to ongoing maintenance, with replacement buses running until early Monday morning.
