Gathering on Tuesday to commemorate Alblasserdam shooting, accident victims

A prayer meeting will be held in the Ichtuskerk in Alblasserdam on Tuesday evening to commemorate the people who died in two tragic incidents in the town on Friday. Two people died in a scooter accident, and two in a shooting at a care farm.

There will be prayers and singing at the gathering, organized by the five denominations. Mayor Jaap Paans will give the opening speech, after which each church will provide input. The church has room for 600 people.

A 34-year-old woman and 16-year-old girl died in the shooting at the Tro Tardi, a care facility and farm for people with disabilities. A 20-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy were seriously injured. The scooter accident ended in the deaths of two young women, aged 18 and 19, from Alblasserdam.

A 38-year-old man from Oud-Alblas is in custody for the shooting. He is also suspected of involvement in a fatal crime in Vlissingen on May 4. A 24-year-old motorist was arrested in connection with the scooter accident. He is accused of manslaughter.
