Three Tanzanian hypothermia victims taken off train, hospitalized
A soaking wet train passenger and two others suffering from symptoms of hypothermia prompted an emergency response to Venlo, Limburg. One man had fallen into water in Eindhoven, and was pulled out by two others, a spokesperson for the fire department told AD. All three men are from Tanzania, and were taken to an area hospital for medical care, the police said in a separate statement.
They seemed to be disturbed at the time, the fire department spokesperson said without elaborating. Later, the fire department and regional safety officials referred all questions about the case to local police, which confirmed the tree men were not in life threatening condition.
"The police are investigating how it is possible that the three men were found unwell this morning in a train at Venlo station," police said. Officers planned to question the men when they are cleared by medical personnel to take part in an interview. "It is also unclear exactly where they boarded the train."
A rapid intervention crew from the fire department was dispatched to the Venlo train station shortly after 8:40 a.m. on Monday along with medical personnel. Train infrastructure agency ProRail confirmed that "multiple people were unwell in train 3530," about 15 minutes later.
As a precaution, the fire department measured for any hazardous substances, tests which came up negative.
