Emergency services responded to the Chemelot industrial estate near Geleen on Wednesday morning after an alarm was triggered for an ammonia leak. A number of streets in the neighboring district of Lindenheuvel are closed to traffic as a precaution, 1Limburg reports.

The toxic substance leaked around 7:45 a.m., according to the newspaper. Ambulances and fire brigade measuring teams responded. Nobody was injured, and firefighters measured no risky quantities of the hazardous substance around the industrial estate.

A large fire in Lebanese restaurant and sisha lounge Comptoir resulted in the evacuation of apartment tower 100Hoog in Rotterdam on Tuesday night. Local residents told AD that they heard a few loud bangs, a car speeding away, and a "conversation that looked like an argument". The police mentioned an explosion, but could not confirm any of the residents' stories.

An apartment building on Valkenhorst in Leiden was evacuated just after midnight after the fire department discovered that several geysers in the building emit far too much carbon monoxide. The fire brigade was called in after a family living in the building went to hospital when they felt ill, Omroep West reports.

The fire brigade evacuated all 42 homes in the building. Around 10 people were checked by ambulance personnel. Residents were given shelter in an adjacent shopping mall.

A man from Newcastle in England is feared drowned after he fell from a party boat on the Noordzee canal just outside Amsterdam around 00:30 a.m. on Sunday. Emergency services searched the canal for hours, but eventually had to halt the search without success, local safety office Veiligheidsregio Zaanstreek-Waterland said on Twitter.

The man went overboard near Westzaan. The captain of the ship threw a life jacket to him, but the man disappeared under water, according to newspaper AD.

An increasing number of house fires in the Netherlands is caused by overheating chargers, according to the Home Fire Risk Monitor by the Netherlands Fire Brigade and Dutch association of insurers VNV. Do not leave a laptop, cellphone or tablet on charge overnight or when no one is at home, they warn, according to the Telegraaf.

A firefighter in the Amsterdam-Amstelland fire department was suspended for making racist comments to a colleague, a spokesperson for the fire department confirmed to the Telegraaf on Sunday.

The suspended firefighter is employed as a commander in the fire department. The spokesperson could give no further information about the firefighter or the investigation against him.

Two potato barns on Molenweg in the Groningen town of Westeremden were destroyed in a large fire during the early hours of Monday morning. Asbestos was released in the fire, according to the Groningen fire department. 

The larger pieces of asbestos settled in the immediate vicinity of the farm on which the fire raged, but it is possible that smaller pieces spread further. The fire brigade will inform local residents about what to do if they find asbestos around their home on Monday morning, according to RTV Noord.

Asbestos was released during a large fire on industrial terrain Liesbosch in Nieuwegein on Sunday night. On Monday morning a number of roads around the terrain, including the N408 in both directions, are closed to the public, as the authorities investigate how far the asbestos spread. 

The fire started in a warehouse on Ravenswade, which used to be a distribution center for supermarket chain Albert Heijn, according to news wire ANP. Firefighters had the fire under control around 1:00 a.m. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.

An overnight fwas caused by a humidifier exploding, the director of the museum told De Stentor. According to him, the spontaneous explosion was recorded by the surveillance cameras. The fire caused large amount of damage and the museum will likely be closed for repairs for a long time, the director expects.

An overnight fire in the Stedelijk Museum in Zwolle caused massive damage to multiple valuable artworks. The damage is estimated in the hundreds of thousands of euros, De Stentor reports.

The fire department responded to the museum around 00:15 a.m. The fire started on the ground floor of the old part of the museum and spread to the walls and ceiling. The fire brigade quickly managed to get it under control, but as the old part of the museum is one large area, the smoke easily spread through the building.

During the early hours of Thursday morning the Gelderland town of Epe dealt with its fourth overnight fire in a row, and the sixth fire in a short time. Around 3:45 a.m., the fire department responded to a fire in a detached wooden chalet at De Koekamp campground, Omroep Gelderland reports.

The chalet was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. The fire was under control by 4:30 a.m., but the chalet can be considered lost, according to the fire department. The police believe it was arson.

Two technicians were injured when a windmill in Zeewolde they were working on caught fire on Wednesday afternoon. They sustained injuries on their hands, AD report.

Dozens of homes in the Zuid-Holland town of 's-Gravenzande were damaged by a tornado on Thursday. Roof tiles were blown off, windows shattered and trees were blown over. The tornado lasted around 25 seconds, according to the Telegraaf.

The former town hall of Wolvega, Friesland was destroyed in a fire on Tuesday night. The upper floor of the monumental building burnt out completely, and the ground floor sustained significant damage, NU.nl reports.

The building on Heerenveenseweg is listed as a national monument. The fire was first reported around 10:15 p.m. The Fryslân fire department responded with a lot of man power. By 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, firefighters had the fire under control, though were still working on extinguishing it.

A professional diver died after getting stuck while working on the sluice complex in the Rijn near Driel on Friday. His lifeless body was released after over an hour by lifting the sluice slightly, AD reports.

A fire department diving team freed the victim's body and brought it out of the water shortly after 1:00 p.m. Emergency workers tried to resuscitate the diver at the scene, but it was to no avail. 

The Social Affairs and Employment Inspectorate is investigating what happened.

Amsterdam's fire brigade was again deployed to a recycling company in the Westelijk Havengebied on Monday morning, because the smouldering remains of a fire on Sunday went up in flames again, Het Parool reports. 

The fire started in a 10 meter high mountain of waste at waste and recycling company Paro on Siciliëweg on Sunday. Paro employees tore the mountain apart with shovels, so that firefighters could get to the flames.

A fire in a building on Bloemerstraat in Nijmegen on Sunday afternoon, left at least 13 student homes uninhabitable, according to the Gelderlander. No one was hurt in the fire. 

The fire started in the ceiling of a home on the ground floor around 1:45 p.m. Firefighters had trouble extinguishing it, because the fire was largely between the floors and in the walls. Eventually some walls had to be knocked down so that firefighters could get to the flames, according to the newspaper. The fire was finally under control around 4:00 p.m.

Fire department divers found a body while searching for a missing swimmer in a recreational lake in Overloon on Wednesday. As no one else is missing in the area, the authorities assume that the body belongs to the swimmer, though official identification is still in progress, AD reports.

According to the operator of recreational lake Schaartven, the swimmer is a Polish man. He disappeared under water while swimming with friends on Tuesday evening. He was last seen by a woman, who saw him struggling to keep his head above water.
