Amsterdam eatery closed after discovery of 2nd hand grenade

The city of Amsterdam closed Surinamese eatery P&G on Bijlmerplein indefinitely after a second hand grenade was found left at the business on Thursday morning. Clothing store Organza further up the square was also closed because gunshots were fired at the building that same morning, Het Parool reports.

The manager of the eatery has no idea why P&G is being targeted, he said to the newspaper. Another hand grenade was found at the building last week.

In addition to the eatery, hand grenades were also left in front of a hotel on Korte van Eeghenstraat in Amsterdam-Zuid and at a business on Lemelerbergweg in Amsterdam Zuidoost last week.

On Thursday Amsterdam police chief Pieter-Jaap Aalbersberg said that the increased use of hand grenades likely has to do with how cheap they are - they can be bought on the dark web or black market for between 5 and 20 euros.
