Hand grenade found at Amsterdam hotel
The Amsterdam police found a hand grenade in front of an hotel on Korte van Eeghenstraat, near one of the entrances to Vondelpark, during the early hours of Wednesday morning. The Ministry of Defense's explosive disposal department dismantled and removed the device, the police said in a statement.
A hotel employee heard a noise at the hotel's front door around 2:30 a.m., according to the police. When he went outside to check what was going on, he found the grenade.
The police believe the hand grenade was thrown at the hotel by a man seen driving a scooter or moped over Van Eeghenstraat towards Jacob Obrechtstraat. The man has tanned skin and a slender posture. He was wearing a dark jacket with a white edge, dark pants and a cap.
Investigators call on any witnesses, or anyone who saw anything unusual in the area of the hotel, to come forward.
Another explosive was found on Lemelerbergweg in Amsterdam-Zuidoost on Wednesday morning.
