Police release photo of suspect in explosive attack on Amsterdam office building

The police have released a photo of one of the two suspects in the explosion at the Atrium office building in Amsterdam’s Zuidas district on Opsporing Verzocht on Monday evening. Investigators asked the public to help identify the suspect.

The explosion happened during the early hours of Monday, March 16. It caused a small fire, which the building’s security extinguished. The building houses the American Bank of New York, which is speculated to be the target of this explosion due to American and Israeli attacks on Iran.

The explosion was claimed by the same group that also claimed an attack on a Jewish school in Amsterdam on March 14 and on a synagogue in Rotterdam on March 13. The group involved is Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiyyah, which is reported to be an Iran-supported Iraqi group, but much is still unknown.

According to the police, the two suspects in the Atrium building attack arrived on a fatbike. The passenger, a man with a backpack, got off and detonated the explosive. He likely fled toward Zuidplein and Station Zuid.

Investigators asked anyone who recognizes this man to come forward. Police also want to make contact with anyone with camera footage “from the wider area” around the Atrium building.
