Suspects arrested in Rabobank safety deposit boxes robbery

The police arrested two men on Monday morning in connection with a robbery of safety deposit boxes at the Rabobank in Oudenbosch early in March. Both suspects work for EBN - the company that provides security for the bank, the Telegraaf reports.

According to the Telegraaf, an alarm in the bank went off shortly before the robbery. Cameras recorded security guards behaving suspiciously.

Homes in Etten-Leur and in Roosendaal were also searched, the Zeeland-West-Brabant police said to the newspaper. Two weeks ago the police seized the servers of security company EBN, based in Breda.

Hundreds of safety deposit boxes were broken into and emptied during the robbery. The extent of the damage is still unclear, as safety deposit box owners rarely indicate what they contain. It is believed that large amounts of gold, cash and jewelry were stolen. The damage is estimated at millions of euros, making this one of the largest bank robberies in Netherlands' history.
