Over 10 pct. of Dutch kids receive youth support treatment

Almost 11 percent of children in the Netherlands were receiving treatment from youth support last year, Statistics Netherlands announced on Friday. Youth support helps and treats kids below the age of 18 who have psychological problems, mental disorders or educational problems.

A total of 376 thousand children were registered with youth support last year, compared to 343 thousand in 2015. That amounts to about 11 per 100 children in the Netherlands. 27 percent of these kids come from single parent homes. About 15 percent of all kids in the Netherlands live in single parent homes.

Hoogezand-Sappemeer, Zoetermeer, Hillegom and Roermond are the municipalities with relatively the most kids who need help from youth support. There more than 15 percent of children were receiving health last year. The municipalities of Schiermonnikoog, Staphorst, Edam-Volenda, Urk and Rozendaal have the fewest youth support cases, 6 percent of kids.
