Venlo man dies after three-car crash on A67 near Grashoek
A 35-year-old man from Venlo has died following a serious three-car crash on the A67 highway near Grashoek, Limburg, according to De Telegraaf. Police confirmed his death on Sunday, just hours after the collision left five people injured and prompted an extensive emergency response.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning on the A67, a major east-west highway connecting Eindhoven to the German border near Venlo. All three vehicles involved sustained major damage, and multiple occupants were trapped inside the wreckage.
Emergency services responded with significant resources. Two of the injured victims were extricated from their vehicles by firefighters. A trauma helicopter was deployed to airlift at least one critically injured person to a hospital. All five individuals hurt in the crash were transported to medical facilities. Police have not released updates on the condition of the other four victims.
The crash site near Grashoek was described as chaotic, with images from the scene showing extensive wreckage. One of the vehicles had flipped over, and the force of the impact left debris scattered across the roadway.
The identity of the deceased was confirmed by police later in the day: a 35-year-old man from Venlo. He had been among the critically injured following the impact. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
“The highway was temporarily closed in both directions,” police said in a statement posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. The A67 remained shut for several hours to allow for rescue operations, medical evacuations, and police investigation.
In addition to the full closure of the A67, nearby roads were also affected. Traffic heading toward Venlo was diverted at the Leenderheide interchange. The exits for Liessel and Panningen were closed to support the emergency response and to prevent further congestion in the area.
