Massive fire engulfs business complex in Deurne, cause unknown

A massive fire broke out at a business complex in Deurne on Monday evening, prompting an emergency response from local firefighters. The blaze, which started at 7:15 p.m. at Janssens Kassasystemen on Industrieweg, quickly spread through the building, with flames visible across the roof.

The fire, described as a "very large industrial fire," is considered difficult to control due to the strong winds in the area, officials said. Firefighters are working with multiple vehicles, including two aerial platforms, to contain the flames. A spokesperson for the fire department indicated that the business is unlikely to be salvaged, referring to the situation as an "extinguishing scenario."

The fire is believed to have started in the roof area of the building, although the exact cause remains unclear. No injuries have been reported, and authorities have not released additional details about the incident.

"Based on the current conditions, we expect the building to be completely destroyed," the spokesperson said.

As thick black smoke billows from the site, local authorities have issued warnings for nearby businesses and residents. A NL Alert was sent urging people in the vicinity to keep their windows and doors shut and avoid exposure to the smoke.

The complex, which houses multiple businesses, is currently facing significant damage. Firefighters continue their efforts to control the blaze.

The investigation into the fire's cause is ongoing.
