Search continues for missing Amersfoort man with medical needs

A search for a 58-year-old man missing since Monday, December 23, continues, with authorities and volunteers combing areas around Amersfoort in the hope of finding him. Ahmed Oulad Sedik, who suffers from dementia, psychosis, and diabetes, was last seen near his home in the city.

The coordinated search operation, which has involved multiple teams and search dogs, was expanded on Saturday, December 28, as local authorities focused on various locations in the region. Despite extensive efforts, including volunteer participation, no trace of Ahmed has been found, according to the police. The search has since been paused, but authorities remain vigilant for any new leads.

"We have received numerous tips, and if any of them provide clear clues, another search operation will be initiated," said Abdeslam, Ahmed’s brother, in a statement. "For now, we are holding out hope that we will find him soon."

Ahmed was last seen near the Ganskuijl area in the Dorrestein district, where his family resides. He has a light complexion, black/gray shaved hair, and a gray mustache. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a blue long coat, gray pants, and dark gray shoes. He may be on foot, and authorities have urged local residents to review their surveillance footage to see if he appears in any of the images.

Search teams, including volunteers from the local Moroccan community as well as others, have focused on several key areas. Efforts took place near the A28 highway in Leusden, Gasthuislaan leading to Stadsring, Valleikanaal, and De Ganskuijl. In addition, earlier searches were conducted in Ede by the Veteranen Search Team, but these efforts also yielded no results.

Between 80 and 90 volunteers have joined the search efforts, assisting in the region and in nearby areas. Abdeslam expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of support. "We are very thankful for the help," he said.

The police are asking anyone with information about Ahmed’s whereabouts or anyone who believes they may have seen him to contact them immediately. Tips can be submitted via the police hotline at 0800-6070, and if someone spots Ahmed, they are advised to stay nearby and call emergency services at 112.
