Police say body found in Helmond canal likely missing 19-year-old Mick

Police discovered a body around 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the canal along Rochadeweg in Helmond, authorities said. Investigators believe it is likely the 19-year-old Mick, who has been missing since January 2, though forensic examination is required to confirm his identity.

Police reported no evidence of a crime. “As always, we are conducting further investigation into the facts and circumstances,” they said.

Mick left his parents’ home on Edelhertlaan in the early hours of Jan. 2. He has a cognitive disability and was reportedly dressed in only a shirt and shorts, unsuitable for the winter weather.

Since his disappearance, law enforcement has deployed extensive resources in the search, including the Mobile Unit, the Veteran Search Team, and search dogs from Stichting Inzet Reddingshond Nederland.
