Fire in residential care center, one killed

A fire in a residential care center Syndion on Vismarkt in Gorinchem resulted in the death of one resident on Tuesday. Firefighters now have the fire under control, ANP reports.

The victim was the resident of the apartment where the fire started. He was rushed to hospital, but died of his injuries.

The fire department evacuated the care center, which provides accommodation and care for people with mental disabilities. A spokesperson for the local safety office could not tell ANP where the evacuated residents were taken.

Firefighters arrived at the scene quickly, and relatively quickly brought the fire under control, the spokesperson said.
