Hikers caught a 61-year-old handball coach from Baarlo, Limburg sexually assaulting a mentally-impaired 16-year-old girl in a forest. The man has been arrested, the police confirmed to RTL Nieuws.
The man in question is municipal official Sjaak S., who also teaches handball and judo to children with mental disabilities, according to the Telegraaf. The girl with whom he was caught in the forest is a member of the handball club where S. coaches.
A fire in a residential care center Syndion on Vismarkt in Gorinchem resulted in the death of one resident on Tuesday. Firefighters now have the fire under control, ANP reports.
The victim was the resident of the apartment where the fire started. He was rushed to hospital, but died of his injuries.
The fire department evacuated the care center, which provides accommodation and care for people with mental disabilities. A spokesperson for the local safety office could not tell ANP where the evacuated residents were taken.
At least 38 children are staying in a closed institution without a court ruling that they could be there. These children were admitted to the institution based on their own or their parents' decision
Philadelphia, the second largest disability care firm in the Netherlands, is withdrawing from 150 of the 200 municipalities where they are currently guiding the mentally disabled.
Public transportation company Klomp Group is under fire today after it emerged that a mentally disabled girl was abandoned on one of their mini bus services. The driver of the bus reportedly left the bus locked, forgetting about his remaining passenger, RTV Utrecht reported.
