Google Brain, the research team within the tech giant that focuses on artificial intelligence (AI), is settling a team in Amsterdam, AI researcher Nal Kalchbrenner announced on Twitter. The team will work on "core AI challenges", he said.

The city of Amsterdam is beginning to crack down on unauthorized bike-sharing in the Dutch capital, traffic alderman and deputy mayor Pieter Litjens said to NL Times. The municipality is notifying unsanctioned bike sharing companies this week that they need to collect their bicycles off of city streets. Bicycles not recovered by these firms will be impounded by the city beginning in mid-October.
The number of Amsterdam homes being rented out on Airbnb is still growing significantly, BNR reports based on figures from Inside Airbnb from July 2016 and April 2017. BNR teamed up with map specialist Esri to create a map showing the numbers of Airbnb listings per neighborhood, for 2016 and 2017.
Remarkably, most of the Airbnb growth happened outside the Amsterdam city center. Some neighborhoods in the city center and Amsterdam Zuid, like Nieuwmarktbuurt, Museumkwartier and Zuidas, even saw a decrease in listings.
Twitter is closing its office in Amsterdam's Zuidas. As of January 1st, an external company is taking over Twitter's advertising sales in the Netherlands.
Twitter has been struggling with disappointing growth in the number of users and is still operating at a loss. While the latest quarterly figures were reasonably good - revenue increased by 8 percent to 616 dollar - the social media company still suffered a 103 million dollar loss.
Twitter therefore immediately announces a round of sizeable cutbacks. The closure of the Amsterdam office is part of this.
A small fire broke out in the ABN Amro headquarters on Zuidas in Amsterdam on Sunday night. About 30 people were working in the building when the fire started. They were evacuated and no one was injured
Following insufficient enrollment numbers for the 2015-2016 academic year, the Duisenberg School of Finance will be integrated into the economics and business faculties at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU) for the start of the next academic year, the institution announced.
