A severe storm from the southwest moved across The Netherlands on Monday. The KNMI issued a code red, the highest weather alert, for extreme weather in the west, center and north of the country. The alert was withdrawn around 14:45 pm.
Today's storm is the worst since 1990. On Vlieland an average force of 11 was measured for over an hour, making the storm as intense as in 1990, according to weather bureau Weather Plaza. For a short time the winds even reached a force of 12 on Vlieland, which is hurricane force.
