Last year Victim Support helped nearly 172 thousand people in the Netherlands, the largest group of which were people in their twenties. The vast majority of people who sought help were victims of property- and violent crimes, according to figures Statistics Netherlands released on Thursday.
Victim Support Netherlands is launching a campaign to reach more victims of road accidents. Research by the organization showed that there are far more traffic victims than the number of people who come to them for help, and that not all road accident victims know that this is an option, NOS reports.

A man with a criminal record was shot and killed in the Noord-Brabant town of Schaijk on Thursday afternoon. Two boys on bicycles found the critically injured man in his car on Rijksweg around 3:00 p.m., he was shot shortly before that, the police said in a statement. On Sunday morning the police arrested an 18 year old man in Erp. The suspect trapped the two adult residents of the house and a 2 year old guest in one of the bedrooms. In another bedroom he held the 13 year old son of the residents under threat for some time.
