Girl, 15, killed in collision between speedboat, rubber boat

A 15-year-old girl died in a collision between a speedboat and a rubber boat off the coast at Zoutelande on Tuesday afternoon. What caused the collision is not yet clear. The driver of the speedboat was arrested, Omroep Zeeland reports.

The accident happened at around 3:15 p.m. The girl was on the rubber boat. The police are investigating how the accident happened. As far as is known, no one else was hurt.

The girl came from the Limburg village of Neer. Her family and other witnesses were offered support and aid.

Four Dutch people were hospitalized after a boating accident on the Schelde in Antwerp on Friday. Two speedboats crashed into each other. A total of 20 Dutch people were injured, NOS reports.

The two speedboats, with captains, were hired by a Dutch company for its annual corporate outing. The speedboats collided shortly after departure. Multiple people ended up in the water. A diving team from the local fire brigade rescued two people from the water, the others were picked up by a water taxi, Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws reported.

A speedboat and a tanker collided with each other at the mouth of the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal and the IJ during the early hours of Saturday morning. Seven people were injured, four of whom sustained serious injuries, ANP reports.

The injured people were all on the speedboat, which was sailing at high speed. An alcohol test was done on the captain of the speedboat, because the police suspected that he was under the influence of alcohol.

The accident happened around 00:45 a.m. on Saturday. The speedboat was seriously damaged, the tanker's damages were minor.

Two men on a stolen speedboat were arrested on the Gooimeer in Amsterdam during the early hours of Monday morning after a chase involving a police boat and a police helicopter, the police said in a statement on Tuesday.
