The Rotterdam Radio Museum is organizing an exhibition showing what World War II era radios and electronics were used in the Netherlands to keep contact with the Allies. The exhibition showcases illegal devices, military radios, common receivers and Morse transmitters specifically obtained for the display, the museum said.

With the Dutch fundraising campaign Serious Request in full swing and over 6.3 million euros collected through Tuesday evening, NL Times takes a seat inside Het Glazen Huis, the glass house on Haarlem's Grote Markt, to chat with two of the 3FM disk jockeys broadcasting the 2014 fundraising effort. The main characters of this years’ event are girls and women in war-struck regions who have fallen victim to sexual abuse. Three 3FM radio DJs are giving them a voice by locking themselves up and broadcasting twenty-four hours per day for a full week.

Harris Broadcast and Broadcast Partners announced the completion of the Netherlands’ transition to all digital radio.

The companies deployed the nationwide digital audio broadcasting plus (DAB+) solution in a record three months, which included more than 30 Harris Broadcast Maxiva VAX transmitters with web enabled IP-based control and monitoring from the head-end to the transmission stage, Harris Broadcast said in a statement.

Retired presenter and singer Herman Emmink died on Monday in Laren at the age of 86. Emmink became famous with his version of the evergreen “Tulips from Amsterdam”.

He started his career as announcer for the radio in the early fifties. In 1957, he gained much popularity as a singer with the famous song “Tulips from Amsterdam”. He became known as “the singing broadcaster”.
