With winter storm Ciara just behind us, and strong winds still blowing along the coast, the next storm is already on the horizon. This coming weekend will again be very windy, according to Buienradar. "There is a big chance of very strong gusts on Sunday. We may have to deal with storm Dennis," meteorologist Maurice Middendorp said to RTL Nieuws.
The moon will fall in the shadow of the earth on Friday night, resulting in an almost complete eclipse that will be visible in the Netherlands. "And it will be clear tomorrow night, so it will be very easy to see," Buineradar meteorologist Maurice Middendorp said to RTL Nieuws.
"92 percent of the moon will end up in the shadow of the earth," Middendorp said. The moon will look darker than usual, with a bright sickle. "That is the 8 percent that's not in the shadow of the earth."
The eclipse will start at 6:06 p.m. on Friday, peak at 8:11 p.m. and be over at 10:15 p.m.
This past week has not been all that summery in the Netherlands, and that does not look to be changing in the coming days. Friday will be wet and dreary, with heavy showers expected, Buineradar meteorologist Maurice Middendorp said to RTL Nieuws.
The northwest of the Netherlands already had their first taste of what is to come, with heavy showers on Thursday morning. On Friday it is the west of the country that will first see the rain, but the heaviest showers will fall to the east.
The Netherlands has two more days of summer high temperatures, before the weather cools down again, Buienradar expects. Ascension day on Thursday will be cool, with maximums no higher than 15 degrees.
Tuesday will be a beautiful summer's day. "It is the hottest day of the week, with maximum around 27 degrees. Locally it will be 29 degrees in the southeast", Maurice Middendorp of Buienradar said to RTL Nieuws. Wednesday will also be warm, if more cloudy. Maximum temperatures will range from 23 degrees along the coast to 25 degrees inland.
The first storm of the year is hitting the Netherlands today. A code yellow weather warning is in effect for the entire country. Meteorological institute KNMI warns of gusts of wind that can reach up to 110 kilometers per hour.
"It seems that the winter weather is over for the time being", said meteorologist Maurice Middendorp from Buidenradar. This weekend will be much milder than earlier this week, with maximum temperatures of up to 10 degrees expected this afternoon, RTL Nieuws reports.
