Milder weather expected for Netherlands this weekend

"It seems that the winter weather is over for the time being", said meteorologist Maurice Middendorp from Buidenradar. This weekend will be much milder than earlier this week, with maximum temperatures of up to 10 degrees expected this afternoon, RTL Nieuws reports.

This morning was still cold and icy, but temperatures climbed throughout the day with sunny spells expected throughout the afternoon. Maximum temperatures will range fro around 5 degrees in the north to 10 degrees in the southern parts of Limburg. Tonight's temperatures will drop to freezing only in the northeastern parts of the country. Zeeland will even have minimum temps of around 4 degrees.

Saturday will be cloudy, with some rain expected in the southwestern parts of the country during the late afternoon. Afternoon temperatures will range from 6 degrees in the northeast to 10 degrees in the south. Sunday's afternoon temperatures will be around 7 degrees and next week maximum temperatures are expected t run up to between 9 and 12 degrees.

No skating will be possible for at least the next week and a half. "But the chances of winter weather is not yet over", Middendorp said to RTL. "We'll have to wait and see what February has in store."
