Two customers and an employee were injured at the IKEA in Haarlem on Saturday after they used what they thought was hand sanitizer at the entrance. Instead of hand sanitizer, the bottle turned out to contain something much stronger.

Six weeks after closing due to the coronavirus crisis, the IKEA stores in the Netherlands are reopening on Tuesday. The company is taking extra measures to protect staff and customers against Covid-19, NOS reports.

Only a certain number of customers will be allowed in at the same time. People are allowed to shop in pairs, but no more than that. And plexiglass screens were placed at checkout and customer service counters.

The restaurants and playgrounds at IKEA stores will remain closed for the time being.

Another 121 people in the Netherlands tested positive for the new coronavirus, bringing the total Covid-19 diagnoses in the country up to 503, public health institute RIVM said on Wednesday. A 68-year-old person became the fifth Covid-19 fatality in the Netherlands. This patient had underlying health problems, the RIVM said.

Supermarket chain Albert Heijn will start offering hot meal delivery from Friday - the first Dutch supermarket to do so. Initially Albert Heijn will only deliver freshly made meals in a certain area in Amsterdam. Deliveries will be handled by Thuisbezorgd.nl and Deliveroo, NU.nl reports.

"We see an increasing demand among our customers for good meals, like you would make yourself, without having to go into the kitchen", said Marit van Egmond, Albert Heijn's director of commerce. The company described this as the next step in food service.

Considerable damage was done to an IKEA store on Hullenbergweg in Amsterdam Zuidoost when thieves tried to blow open an ATM on Friday morning, AT5 reports.

The perpetrators forced open an window and detonated an explosive at the ATM at around 4:10 a.m. on Friday. It seems that the machine wasn't actually blown open, and that the thieves did not get away with any money. But the damage to the store is considerable, according to the local broadcaster.

Dutch designers Erwin Zwiers and Margje Teeuwen are accusing IKEA of copying their design for a ceiling lamp that looks like a wad of paper. Known for their viral videos, Boris Lange and LifeHunters.tv presented a ten euro IKEA painting as a masterpiece inside Museum Arnhem for their latest piece. Dressed up as an art connoisseur cliché, Lange walks around the museum asking visitors for their opinions about the artwork, which he says is painted by up-and-coming Swedish artist Ike Andrews.
