Dutch presenter Eva Jinek interviewed American presidential candidate Hillary Clinton on a special episode of Brandpunt+ on Tuesday night. Some 611 thousand viewers tuned in to watch, according to figures from Stichting Kijkonderzoek.

The interview was recorded last week Thursday and broadcast on Tuesday, according to NOS. Jinek and Clinton discussed Clinton's campaign to become president of the United States, her reaction when Donald Trump won instead, and Trump as an opponent for whom rules don't seem to apply.

Hillary Clinton believes that her loss in the American presidential election last year, had an influence on the Dutch parliamentary election earlier this year. At the very least, Dutch voters were more informed about things like Russia trying to influence international elections with propaganda after that happened in the United States election, she said in an interview with RTL Nieuws correspondent Erik Mouthaan.

"I think it [the U.S. election] certainly gave Dutch voters information that American voters didn't have", she said in the interview.

American news agencies are projecting that Donald Trump won the United States election. If correct, he will succeed current President Barack Obama in the White House. The inauguration is scheduled for January 20th, 2017. While PVV leader Geert Wilders is already waving the victory flags, left-wing politicians in The Hague are shocked.

"CONGRATULATIONS Donald Trump!! Your victory is historic and for all of us!" Wilders tweeted. "And we Dutch will also conquer our country back!"

PVV leader Geert Wilders is elated by the increasing chances of Donald Trump to win the United States election. "The people are taking their country back", he wrote on Twitter. "So will we."

Earlier this year Wilders compared himself to Trump, saying that they are very much the same. Both owe their popularity to disgruntled voters who feel unreperesented, Wilders said in an interview with CNN.

Her decision was made in consultation with the party following critique about her sudden departure from Parliament in January to go work on the Hillary Clinton campaign, where she's only done volunteer work so far.
