The court in Noord-Holland on Friday sentenced a 23-year-old man to two years in prison, one of which conditionally suspended, for attempting to extort Albert Heijn's parent company Ahold by threatening to poison the supermarket chain's customers. The man will also be on probation for three years, the court said in a ruling issued Friday.

The police shared more information about mail bombs sent to different businesses in the Netherlands since late last year on Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday evening. Investigators hope that information from the public can help them find the perpetrator behind these explosive letters.

A mail bomb exploded at an ING facility in Amsterdam on Thursday afternoon. On person was checked over for smoke inhalation by paramedics at the scene, the Amsterdam police said on Twitter.

The incident happened on Bijlmerdreef. Firefighters, paramedics and police were first dispatched to the scene just after 12:15 p.m.

Two mail bombs which exploded in Amsterdam and Kerkrade earlier on Wednesday were part of an extortion plot where the sender demanded an undisclosed amount of bitcoin. The demand was made with the promise that, if paid, the sender would stop distributing the explosives, police said in a statement.

The amount involved was not revealed so the information could be used against any eventual suspect, police said.

Over the past months the police arrested a 14 teenagers and a 19-year-old man from Leiden and its surroundings in an investigation into sexual extortion. So far 28 victims reported to the police that teenagers were extorting them, threatening to post sexual photos of them online if they don't pay them money, the police said in a statement.

The victims range in age between 14 and 48 years. The police believe there are many more victims, and that this group of teenagers extorted around 100 thousand euros from the victims.

A sex worker from The Hague and three men are suspected of blackmailing a Hague millionaire last summer. The real estate millionaire was filmed during a visit to the sex worker. The suspects told him to pay a hefty sum or they would make the footage public and send a copy to his wife. The suspects must appear in court on Monday, AD reports.

The suspects initially demanded 100 thousand euros from the millionaire, but later lowered that amount to 10 thousand euros. The victim immediately went to the police. The suspects were arrested during a second meeting with the victim.

The Dutch Public Prosecution Service is concerned that so-called deepfakes will be used for crimes like blackmail, extortion or even election meddling as the technology becomes more and more accessible. "We have to realize that if we see something, we can no longer just believe it", prosecutor Lodewijk van Zwieten said to NOS. The Tilburg man convicted in the Netherlands, and connected to the suicide of Canadian teenager Amanda Todd, plans to drop his appeal against his conviction in order to speed up a potential extradition to Canada, according to AD. Aydin C., now 41, was convicted in 2017 and sentenced to 10 years and 8 months in prison for the sexual abuse of 34 underage girls.

The Satudarah chapter in Geleen threatened to commit a slaughter in the city if the police raided the outlaw motorcycle gang's clubhouse. Messages intercepted by the police show that the motorcycle gang threatened to throw hand grenades into a bar with a hundred or more people inside, was revealed during the first hearing against seven members of Satudarah Geleen on Monday, NU.nl reports.

Multiple Amsterdam businesses received an email threatening them with hand grenades or shootings if they do not pay 50 thousand euros in bitcoins to the sender. The police confirmed that multiple reports of this email have been received and they are investigating, AT5 reports.

The email, which is in the possession of AT5, was sent to at least three coffeeshops and Club ABE on Amstelstraat since May this year. The writer refers to the municipality of Amsterdam's policy to close businesses after a shooting or an explosive was found there.

The police in Doetinchem arrested 11 people between the ages of 16 and 25 years on suspicion of a large number of criminal activities ranging from violent robberies to online fraud. The arrests formed part of a large-scale raid involving some 70 police officers, the police said in a statement on Tuesday.

The detainees are suspected of, among other things, violent robberies, assault and attempts thereto, public violence, extortion, fraud, possession of stolen items, and threatening victims and witnesses.

The 53-year-old man is suspected of assault, extortion, threats, violent theft and forgery. Three Dutch soldiers left their unit in Schaarsbergen in 2014 because they were assaulted, bullied, extorted, abused and one was raped, the Volkskrant reports. Some of these incidents happened during hazing. Four soldiers from the same unit were punished. One of the victims filed a police declaration about the incidents two weeks ago, according to the newspaper.

A member of outlaw motorcycle gang Satudarah was arrested in Geleen on Wednesday morning, the police announced in a statement. He is suspected of aggravated assault and extortion.

The assault happened in 2015. According to the police, the 31-year-old man attacked a woman in her Geleen home. She sustained serious injuries. The police believe that the victim and her husband was extorted by the motorcycle gang for some time before the assault. 

Why this arrest was made some two years after the crime is not clear.

The police believe that more arrests will follow.

Dutch man Jelle F. was sentenced on appeal to 18 years in prison for throwing acid in a woman's face in a Delhaize supermarket in Antwerp two years ago, ANP reports.

The sentence is the same as when F. first stood trial. Unlike the first trial however, the appeal judge did not find F. guilty of attempted murder, but of extortion and torture. According to the court, it is not clear that F. wanted to kill his victim.

Police in Amsterdam arrested eight suspects connected to a plot to excessively overcharge taxi passengers picked up at Schiphol Airport. In one case investigated by authorities, a Swedish man was ordered to pay 595 euros for a ride from the airport to Amsterdam city center, a taxi fare that normally costs between 40 and 60 euros.
