Last year 28 percent of all employees in the Netherlands often or always received so much information in a working day that they had difficulty processing it quickly enough. In 2014 it was 25 percent, according to a study by Statistics Netherlands and TNO.

Employees who experience information overload are more often dissatisfied with their working conditions and have a stronger desire to leave their current employer and find a new job, according to the study.

Of all working people in the Netherlands, freelancers are most often at risk of dropping below the poverty line, Statistics Netherlands reported on Tuesday. In 2017 the percentage of freelancers - self-employed persons with no employees - at risk of earning less than they need increased, while the number of employees at risk of poverty has been decreasing for years.

Deliveroo wrongly classifies its delivery workers as freelancers, a Dutch court ruled on Tuesday in two cases filed by union FNV. There is an employment contract, which means that deliverers should be considered employees and be covered by the collective bargaining agreement for professional goods transport, the court ruled, NU.nl reports.

The court ruled that delivery workers can now claim employment and that Deliveroo must apply the collective bargaining agreement retroactively. Deliveroo announced that it will appeal against the ruling.

Some 856 thousand Dutch employees are not building up a pension, according to a study Statistics Netherlands did on behalf of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment. That amounts to 13 percent of all Dutch employees. Previously the Ministry estimated that only 4 percent of employees are not saving for retirement, RTL Z reports.

Almost half, 46 percent, of the Dutch population saw their purchasing power decrease last year, Statistics Netherlands reported on Thursday. The purchasing power developments varied considerably in 2017. For a fifth of the population, purchasing power decreased by at least 7 percent. Another fifth saw their purchasing power increase by 10.9 percent.

Dutch CEOs on average earn 171 times more than the salary of the average employee, according to an analysis by Bloomberg using benchmark stock indexes in 22 nations. That puts the Netherlands in 5th place for the biggest wage gap. The income gaps are only bigger in the United States, India, the United Kingdom, and South Africa.

The average purchasing power of Dutch increased by 2.7 percent last year, the strongest increase since 2007, Statistics Netherlands announced on Friday. Despite this, one in three Dutch saw their purchasing power decrease, NU.nl reports. 

The increase can be attributed to a package of debt relief measures and an average of 1.8 percent increase in collective bargaining agreement wages, according to the stats office. The 0.3 percent increase in consumer prices, pushed purchasing power down somewhat.

The average Dutch worker work 22.6 kilometers from their home. Workers in the big cities and people living on the outskirts of the Netherlands, such as on the Wadden Islands, in particular tend to live where they work, NU.nl reports.

A massive 62 percent of employers in the Netherlands have to deal with staff facing financial problems, according to a report by national budget information office Nibud. A worker with a full time job and a modal salary that has debt problems, could cost an employer up to 13 thousand euros per year, the report states, according to NU.nl.

Dutch employers take too few steps to prevent recurrence of burnout in their employees, according to a study by Kantar Public on behalf of Zilveren Kruis. 56 percent of employees who return to work after recovering from a burnout, find that their manager did not make any changes, NU.nl reports.
