Three-Michelin star De Leest to close its doors for sake of owners' child

Three Michelin star restaurant De Leest in Vaassen is closing its doors 17 years after opening, owners Jacob Jan Boerma and Kim Veldman announced. They will start a new culinary adventure with the launch of a concept restaurant in Amsterdam early next year, RTL Nieuws reports.

The couple plans to spend more time with their four-year-old son, Senne. "I've never been to a zoo or amusement park with him," Boerma told the broadcaster. "I also really want my wife to be able to put that little man to bed more than once per week."

Twelve Dutch restaurants were awarded their first Michelin stars at the presentation in Amsterdam on Monday. Two others were awarded a second star. Inter Scaldes in Kruiningen, De Leest in Vaassen and De Librije in Zwolle all kept the three stars they already had, according to Misset Horeca.

Restaurants Sabero in Roermond and Pure C in Catzand were each awarded two stars..

Inter Scaldes in Kruiningen was named the best restaurant in the Netherlands by restaurant guide Lekker. The Zeeland restaurant came in second place last year, RTL Nieuws reports.

Last year's first place, Jonnie Boer's De Librije, came in second place this year. De Leest in Vaassen came in third.

Inter Scaldes in Kruiningen was awarded a third Michelin star at the presentation of the stars in Amsterdam on Monday. Inter Scaldes is the third restaurant in the Netherlands to get 3 Michelin stars, joining De Librije in Zwolle and De Leest in Vaassen, both of which managed to hold on to their three stars over the past year, NU.nl reports.

No restaurants in the Netherlands were awarded their second star this year. The Duchess, Le Restaurant and The Whiteroom in Amsterdam, AIRRepublic in Cadzand, Fitzgerald in Rotterdam, and Vista in Willemstad all got their first star.

De Librije reclaims title of Netherlands best restaurant in Lekker 500 ranking

De Librije restaurant in Zwolle is back on the number one spot of Lekker 500's top restaurants in the Netherlands. Last year's number one, Inter Scaldes in Kruiningen, came in second place this year, NOS reports.

The rest of the top five consists of Ciel Bleu in Amsterdam, De Leest in Vaassen and FG Restaurant in Rotterdam.

Inter Scaldes in Kruinngen was named the Netherlands' best restaurant on the Lekker500 list for 2017. Second place went to De Librije and third to De Leest in Vaassen, NU.nl reports.

The judges praised Inter Scaldes for its "excellent cuisine". But added that there was very little difference between the top three. De Librije and De Leest both have three Michelin stars, Inter Scaldes has two.

The full Lekker500 list will be published on Tuesday.

The Librije restaurant in Zwolle has been voted the best restaurant in the Netherlands by culinary magazine Lekker. The magazine listed the restaurant as number one when it published its top 500 list of restaurants in the country, the Lekker500. Three-star chef, Jonnie Boer, had his restaurant finish in third place last year.
