A Connexxion bus had to make an emergency stop on Oranjebaan in Amstelveen on Thursday afternoon. The stop was so sudden that some passengers were thrown by the bus. Six people were injured, AT5 reports.

The bus involved was bus 300 that runs between Station Haarlem and Bijlmer Arena. Several injured had to go to hospital, others were treated at the scene, a witness told AT5.

According to the police, the bus had to stop due to a traffic situation. The bus driver managed to prevent a collision, a police spokesperson said to the broadcaster.

Due to a national strike in regional public transit, virtually no city- or regional buses will run from today. Some regional trains could also fall out. NS trains, and public transit in Amsterdam and The Hague are unaffected. Rotterdam is partly affected.

Regional public transit workers across the Netherlands will strike from Wednesday, unions CNV and FNV confirmed. Mediators' attempt to make a new collective bargaining agreement for this sector failed, ANP reports.

CNV called on its members to strike for 72 hours starting on Wednesday morning. "Unfortunately, we would've like to see this end differently", CNV negotiator Jean-Marie Severijns said.

A nationwide strike in regional public transit previously announced to start on Monday, has been postponed until Wednesday, June 27th. This is to give mediators more time to come to a solution in the deadlocked collective bargaining agreement talks between unions and employers, union CNV said, AD reports.

Regional buses and -trains will not be operating across the Netherlands on Monday and Tuesday. The court gave workers permission to strike, AD reports.

The regional bus and train drivers are striking for a lower workload, more training and breaks to use the bathroom. Unions FVN and CNV announced the strike earlier this week.

Public transportation in the Netherlands was seriously disrupted Thursday morning after regional transit workers walked off the job at 4 a.m. in a one-day strike. The labour action is meant to call attention to what the workers have called unreasonable work pressure, and a pay raise that is capped 40 percent lower than what the bus drivers and train conductors wanted.

The planned action is because workers could not get guarantees to reduce job stress, and a proposed salary increase is smaller than demanded.

A 2015 traffic accident involving once-prominent VVD politician Fred Teeven was caused by his own use of his phone while driving. Now a professional bus driver, the former Number 2 at the Justice Ministry stated his mea culpa in an interview with De Telegraaf.

The April 2 accident was serious enough to later require a brain operation.

The police arrested a man carrying a sword from a Connexxion bus in Den Helder on Monday night, a community police officer said on Twitter.

The bus driver called the police because the man was misbehaving. Officers removed him from the bus.  It later turned out that he left his sword on the bus. He was arrested.

"Other than that we had a quiet Christmas", officer Rolf Regtop said on Twitter.

On Monday trade unions CNV Vakmensen and FNV announced labor actions and a possible nationwide, 24 hour long public transit strike on January 4th. These actions are the result of talks on a new collective bargaining agreement for public transit workers collapsing last month, Financieele Dagblad reports. 

The current collective bargaining agreement expires on January 1st. It covers over 12 thousand public transit employees.

Former State Secretary Security and Justice Fred Teeven is working part time as a bus driver for Connexxion, the public transit company confirmed to NU.nl.

"I do driver work part-time and have just finished my introductory course", Teeven said to the Telegraaf on Thursday. "I always wanted to be an international truck driver, but when the chance arose to sit on the bus for a day and a half a week in my own region, I immediately became enthusiastic."

A serious shortage of bus drivers is looming just over the horizon, NOS reports after speaking to the Dutch public transit companies. Some companies even doubt whether they will be able to keep all their bus lines running in the near future.

Two people were killed in a workplace accident at Almere public transit company Connexxion on Thursday, the Social Affairs and Employment Inspectorate confirmed, RTL Nieuws reports.

The accident happened at a workshop. The two employees were working on a bus that was on a lifting bridge. The bus fell and crushed the employees. How this happened is still unclear.

The Inspectorate is investigating what happened.

According to Omroep Flevoland, the investigation is expected to take three months. Until the report is complete, no further announcements will be made.

A Connexxion bus driver in Amstelveen told a family of color to get off the bus to make room for "real Dutch people" on Thursday, a man who was on the bus wrote on Twitter, according to RTV Amstelveen.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Amstelveen bus station. The tweets led to outrage online and were eventually removed.

NS, public transporters, unions and government parties teamed up to set up an actioin plan aimed at reducing violent incidents on public transport. The intention is to reduce the number of incidents by 20 percent by 2018, according to the Telegraaf.

The plan includes improving the share of information about perpetrators, extra surveillance and extra security staff with additional powers, according to the newspaper.

On Wednesday the Lelystad court sentenced two en to prison for 3.5 and 2 years respectively. They were found guilty of robbing a Connexxion bus in Almere with a knife in June

An increasing number of bus lines are going cashless, in an effort to increase safety on buses by preventing robberies. On Tuesday public transporter Connexxion also launched a trial run with cashless payments on its buses in Middelburg. The transporter aims to have all its buses in the Netherlands cashless by 2018.

A group of about 20 young people attacked various Connexxion buses by pelting them with stones in the Almere neighborhood of Kruidenwijk over the weekend. The public transport company therefore decided to stop their buses traveling through the neighborhood with immediate effect
