The Red Cross in the Netherlands expects to need 30 million euros to provide coronavirus aid throughout the Kingdom of the Netherlands. According to the relief organization, hundreds of thousands of people are in need of help. The coronavirus crisis triggered the biggest relief action since the massive flood of 1953, the Red Cross said, NOS reports.
Hundreds of elderly people on the Dutch Caribbean islands of Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius regularly go to bed hungry. They have no food at home and often can't find a spot at the daycare, where food is provided, National Ombudsman Reinier van Zutphen said in his report Eye for the Elderly in the Caribbean Netherlands, NOS reports.
In a massive action against the illegal trade in animals and plants, the Dutch government seized a huge amount of illegal products over the past months. Among the items seized were 14 thousand dead seahorses, three elephant legs, a polar bear skin, and 77 kilos of scales from the very endangered African ant eater, the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality announced.
