Video: Major fire breaks out on roof of historic Roermond building
A large fire broke out Tuesday morning in the roof of a historic building containing apartments in central Roermond. Smoke has reportedly been drifting over the city center, De Telegraaf reported.
The Limburg-Noord safety authority has scaled up its response to a “very large fire,” dispatching multiple vehicles, including two aerial ladder trucks.
Authorities issued an NL-Alert and a Burgernet notification shortly before noon, calling on people not to go out onto the streets unnecessarily.
The safety region also advised residents to keep windows and doors closed because of the smoke drifting toward the city center.
Around 2 p.m., a spokesperson for the safety region said the fire had been significantly reduced and smoke production was minimal. “There is also no question of spreading to neighboring buildings,” the spokesperson said.
