Several hospitalized after fire tears through Tilburg apartment complex
A fire raged in an apartment complex on Ringbaan Zuid in Tilburg on Saturday morning. Dozens of people had to evacuate, and "several" were taken to a hospital due to breathing problems, Omroep Brabant reports.
The fire, accompanied by heavy smoke, was discovered around a quarter to seven. Various fire trucks, ambulances, and police cars rushed to Ringbaan Zuid.
An officer reported that smoke filled an entire floor. The cause is unknown, but according to Omroep Brabant, rumors are circulating that a forgotten candle might have ignited the fire.
The damage to the apartment where the fire raged is extensive. Earlier in the morning, it was reported that the fire department was busy ventilating the building. It is not yet clear when the residents could return to their apartments.
The fire department rescued a cat from the apartment where the fire broke out. The animal was resuscitated outside and cared for by the fire department until the veterinarian arrived.
