Weather: Strong winds today, chance of snow tomorrow

After a spell of very pleasant spring weather, conditions in the Netherlands are back to winter today. The KNMI forecasts strong winds on Wednesday morning, followed by thunderstorms in the afternoon. And snowfall is possible on Thursday.

The KNMI issued a cold yellow weather warning for the northwestern coastal area and over the IJsselmeer for Wednesday morning, warning of a strong westerly wind with gusts of around 90 kilometers per hour. The wind will turn northwesterly during the course of the morning and decrease in strength. The warning was lifted by 8:20 a.m.

Wednesday afternoon will be predominantly cloudy, with showers passing over the country. The showers may be accompanied by hail and thunderstorms. Maximums will climb to around 8 degrees Celsius, with a moderate to strong northwesterly wind.

Overnight, the KNMI expects wintry showers, possibly with thunderstorms. Minimums will dip to around 2 degrees Celsius.

Thursday will be partly to heavily cloudy, with showers and snow. Maximums will again climb to around 8 degrees. After a cold night, Friday will be mostly dry with occasional sunshine.

“From the weekend onwards, more changeable weather again with a daily chance of rain, occasional strong winds, and temperatures rising to values around or slightly above the long-term average,” the KNMI said. Typically, maximums climb to around 11 degrees late in March.
