Dozens of Schiphol flights caneled; over 140 delayed over winter weather
The winter weather isn’t only causing chaos on the Dutch roads on Friday. Schiphol had to cancel dozens of flights because it was not safe to take off or land. Over 140 flights, mostly arrivals, are delayed.
On its website, Schiphol reported that 22 arrivals had been canceled and 128 delayed for the rest of the day. Departures are less affected, with 14 cancellations and 15 delays.
“Travelers planning to fly this Friday are in for a rude awakening. We are dealing with a disrupted flight schedule due to the winter weather,” an airport spokesperson told NU.nl. Disruptions will last throughout the day, the airport expects.
Snow and freezing temperatures caused ice formation on roads and runways on Friday morning. The coastal provinces, including Noord-Holland where Schiphol is located, are currently also under a strong winds warning. The KNMI warned of gusts up to 90 kilometers per hour. The winds should die down by around 6:00 p.m.
