Some snowfall in the east, occasional sunshine in the west: Changeable week ahead for NL
The Netherlands has a changeable weather ahead this week, with large temperature differences between the cold northeast and the milder southwest. The northeastern parts of the country will see occasional snow throughout the week, while the southwest’s occasional precipitation will fall in the form of rain, the KNMI reported.
Due to the snowfall in the northeast and east, there is a risk of slippery conditions on the roads, bike paths, and sidewalks. The KNMI issued a code yellow warning for Groningen, Drenthe, and Overijssel. The warning should lapse by 4:00 p.m., but will likely be implemented again overnight.
Monday will be cloudy with occasional light snowfall in the northeast and east. A few centimeters of snow cover could build up in these areas. The rest of the country will be mostly dry, with the western parts seeing the sun on occasion. Maximums will range between just above freezing in the east to around 3 degrees in the west, with a light to moderate northerly wind, which will be fairly strong along the north coast.
Tuesday will start dry with occasional sunshine. Clouds will start developing from the southwest later in the morning, with rain spreading across more of the country during the afternoon. The northeast should remain dry. Maximums will climb to around 3 degrees with a moderate easterly wind, strong in the northern coastal areas. Tuesday evening will see rain in many places and up to 5 centimeters of snow in the north and northeast.
The rest of the week will see cold weather in the northeast and milder weather in the southwest. There will be occasional precipitation throughout the week, falling as rain in the southwest and snow in the northeast. “Possible colder temperatures this weekend, especially in the north,” the meteorological institute reported.
