Code Yellow warning issued for icy roads in most of Netherlands
The KNMI issued a Code Yellow slippery roads warning for almost the entire country. The slippery conditions are caused by the freezing of wet road sections. The weather warning is in effect until 10:00 a.m. throughout the Netherlands, except the Wadden Islands.
Due to winter weather conditions, Code Yellow was already in effect on Friday in almost the entire country.
Overall, the weekend starts rather gloomy with cold and wet weather and temperatures of 4 to a maximum of 7 degrees. Clouds will increase and there will be rain and a strong south-westerly wind. However, Sunday should be a completely different story and it will be much milder at 14 to 17 degrees. The sun will shine regularly and it will be dry. After the weekend, it will be slightly changeable with sun, clouds, and occasional rain or showers. Temperatures will drop from 14 degrees on Monday to 8 degrees at the end of the week, Weeronline reports.
On Saturday morning, the temperature will be slightly above freezing in almost all parts of the Netherlands and the roads will be locally slippery due to freezing rain and non-gritted ice. There will also be the occasional shower, especially in the north, otherwise, it will remain dry. Clouds will increase from the west and light rain will come from the southwest. During the day, the wind will become increasingly strong and wind force 4 to 7 will prevail in the coastal areas and the Wadden Sea, according to the weather service.
