Video: Woman found dead in Heerlen home; Police suspect crime
Foul play was suspected in connection with the discovery of a dead woman found in a home in Heerlen on Sunday evening. The police indicated the "circumstances surrounding the discovery" indicated a crime may have taken place. A 40-year-old man from the same Limburg city was taken into custody.
The victim is a 62-year-old woman, police said in an update correcting their earlier report that she was 63. Her body was found in an apartment complex on Klompstraat in the Limburg city.
A police spokesperson told the regional broadcaster L1 that they received a report at around 8:30 p.m. and went to check the home. Officers found the woman inside.
First responders tried to resuscitate the woman, but their efforts were to no avail. She was declared dead at the scene. Detectives joined the case, and forensic investigators collected trace evidence at the scene. Officers conducted a thorough canvass of the area, police said overnight.
The 40-year-old was arrested at about 4 a.m., police announced five hours later. "He is suspected of possible involvement in the woman's death," a statement noted.
His connection to the woman has not been revealed, and police have not released a possible motive.
"The suspect is in custody at the police station. The investigation continues unabated," police stated.
