Man arrested after deadly Bocholtz shooting; Investigation continues
A man was arrested Saturday in connection with a deadly shooting that took place Thursday evening on Wilhelminastraat in Bocholtz, southeastern Limburg, police reported. The investigation is ongoing, and police have not ruled out further arrests.
The shooting happened around 10:40 p.m. Thursday, when a 39-year-old man from Kerkrade was shot in the head on the main street of Bocholtz. The victim was rushed to a hospital but died overnight from his injuries.
Since the incident, police and the Public Prosecution Service have conducted continuous investigations. Authorities secured video footage, interviewed potential witnesses and local residents, and carried out forensic examinations. These efforts led to the arrest of a male suspect Saturday afternoon. He is being held under full restrictions. No additional information about the suspect has been released.
The municipality of Simpelveld, where Bocholtz is located, has responded by implementing extra security measures, including the installation of a temporary street camera. Mayor Susanne Scheepers said in a statement, “The incident touches us deeply. We feel the unrest and concerns in our community. Now more than ever, it is important that we stand together in unity and trust. We will not be led by fear or speculation, but by carefulness and respect for the investigation.”
