Hundreds of Roma children are being used by family members as pickpockets, burglars or even sex slaves in the Netherlands, various experts and aid workers said to Nieuwsuur. The police responded that 400 detectives work on hundreds of human trafficking cases per year, including the exploitation of Roma children. Police officers will get extra training this year on recognizing the signs of human trafficking.

A woman charged with trying to steal jewelry from hundreds of retirement homes was sentenced on Tuesday to two and a half years in prison, with ten months probation. The court in Almelo also ordered the woman to pay 45,000 euros in damages to the dozens of elderly victims she is accused of robbed.

The Public Prosecutor in the Hague announced on Monday the decision to appeal the sentence a Noord-Holland court imposed on a 46-year old man for secretly taping girls and women in field hockey locker rooms. The 1.5-year sentence, with eight months suspended, is viewed as too low, particularly as the man was recording girls under 18 years of age.

The prosecutor demanded a 16-year prison sentence for Antonio Marcos van der P. and 14-year sentence for Enise B. today in court in Assen, the public prosecution reports. The couple, known as Dutch Bonnie and Clyde went on a crime spree in February 2014 and are suspected of extortion, attempted manslaughter, attempted murder, unlawful detention and armed robbery.

An investigating judge in Utrecht has remanded the 49-year-old man suspected of causing a boating accident which killed two people on Monday. The suspect is being investigated for manslaughter by the public prosecutor after a judge refused any possibility to charge the man with homicide.
