Possible snow and icy conditions expected across the Netherlands
The Netherlands is bracing for hazardous weather conditions as light snow and freezing temperatures are forecast over the weekend. While Saturday will remain mostly dry, the evening and overnight hours bring an increased risk of icy roads in various areas, according to KNMI.
The KNMI has issued a "code geel" (yellow) warning for snow and icy conditions, effective from Saturday evening through Sunday morning, especially in the west and southwest of the Netherlands. This alert indicates the potential for slippery roads due to snow accumulation and the freezing of wet surfaces. Drivers are urged to take caution in these areas, particularly overnight and in the early morning hours, when temperatures are expected to drop to around -2 degrees.
Saturday morning will begun with clear skies in the southwest, with cloud cover elsewhere. The rest of the day will remain dry, with temperatures peaking around 3 degrees. Winds will be light, and there may be brief intervals of sunshine in some places, though most areas will stay overcast.
Temperatures will drop overnight, especially in central and southern parts of the country, where light snow is expected to continue. The risk of icy roads will increase due to snow accumulation and the freezing of wet surfaces. With northeast winds remaining weak to moderate, temperatures will reach a minimum of around -2 degrees.
Sunday morning could see icy conditions in the southern half of the country due to the freezing of residual moisture on the roads. Periods of sunshine will appear across the country, but no precipitation is expected. Temperatures will range from 2 degrees in the northeast to approximately 5 degrees in the south, with moderate easterly winds continuing.
By Sunday evening, conditions will remain dry with little cloud cover, but temperatures are expected to fall quickly, leading to freezing conditions throughout the country. Moderate easterly winds will persist through the night.
