Hague teen, 17, arrested for assaulting taxi driver

A taxi driver from Schiedam was assaulted by a passenger who refused to pay in Breda during the early hours of Monday morning. A 17-year-old boy from The Hague was arrested. He hit the taxi driver on the head with a firearm. A shot was also fired, but the bullet didn't hit anyone, Omroep Brabant reports.

The 29-year-old driver picked up the boy in Rotterdam and drove him to a hotel in Breda. They had to stop at an ATM because the boy had no money on him. The situation escalated on Markendaalseweg around 4:30 a.m. The boy hit the driver with a firearm and fired a shot. The driver ran away towards Fellenoordstraat. The boy also fled.

The driver called emergency services. Paramedics treated him for minor injuries on Fellenoordstraat and police officers started looking for the perpetrator.

They arrested the teenager on Lovensdijkstraat about an hour later. He was found sleeping on the porch of a nursing home. The firearm was found on Bleekstraat, thanks to information provided by a witness.
